So minus a few local bands I saw in High School (whose names I don't remember at all) So this is starting from Sophomore year of college. Please know that I have some questionable taste in music. And I love the fact that I do.<br />

<a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c5/Dule_hill.jpg/220px-Dule_hill.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c5/Dule_hill.jpg/220px-Dule_hill.jpg" width="161" /></a></div>
This is Dule Hill. He is an actor. He is probably best known for his role as Charlie in the West Wing or as Gus in Psych. Today we are going to talk about the latter.<br />
<br />
Something that is extremely common in television is the idea of the minority sidekick. I would offer a list to prove my point but I think I would do well to keep this post a little shorter than that. Psych for those of you who are unfamiliar with the show follows the adventures of a private (fake) psychic detective, Shawn Spencer, as he aids the police in solving cases. Gus is often the voice of reason and the straight man. It is a comedy.<br />
<br />
There is an interesting dynamic of James Roday (who plays Shawn the protagonist) was born with the last name Rodriguez and is a person of color with passing privilege. But that is perhaps another post for another day.<br />
<br />
Often times the minority sidekick (regardless if they are a person of color or a flamboyant gay man) usually fall into two categories. They act completely as a part of the majority as if it would be no different than if their sidekick were apart of the majority and they are simply there for a little diversity in the cast. But only in passing or for visual effect. Or they adhere to every single stereotype that is often attributed to the minority in a gross exaggeration and often it is only played for drama or comedy. Or they somehow straddle both lines and fall into one or the other whenever it is convenient for the plot.<br />
<br />
Now, I don't know if I can credit Dule Hill or it is simply good writing but Gus manages to not fall into either of those categories. Instead Gus not only addresses his blackness on screen but often times it is in a positive way.<br />
<br />
For Example:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">Shawn: "How come you're allowed to say 'bingo,' and I'm not?</span> </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">"</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;">Gus: "The same reason you're not allowed to say, 'true-dat.'"</span> </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;">Shawn: "True that."</span> </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;">Gus: "Exactly."</span></blockquote>
They address the dynamic of Shawn's whiteness and Gus' blackness in a way that is very race positive. Gus mentions his experience as a person of color fairly frequently and it is usually met with understanding and not just given a brush off. Shawn and Gus are both allowed to engage in the discussion of race in an interesting and positive way without it seeming outside of the context of the show.<br />

<br />
This morning I was going to take a lot of pictures of Quilts in progress for a WIP Wed post. currently I have 6 and I am actively working on four. And I would really like the wise opinion of my small but very intelligent readership. However I lost me camera card. Not sure where it is, at all. Tore apart my room this morning to no luck. I can't afford a new card right now (unless they sell them at the student book store then it is sort of like an interest free creditcard) So with a little luck I will be able to post a finished quilt top, or sock or something for FO Friday (ha. Probably not).<br />
<br />
PS: I decided to put the followers widget on my blog so if you haven't yet please follow me!<br />
PPS: I fail at lack of YOP post this week but I am not failing at YOP knitting. I have stuff to share I promise.<br />

When ever I feature Esme on this blog. She is usually all riled up, got her tongue sticking out, and looks generally very silly. This is what happens when you take a puppy and try to pose her and get her to do things. It is also what happens when you take a dog outside. She thinks you want to play with her when really all you want her to do is sit on your quilt.<br />
<br />
This is Esme's normal state. She is cuddled up on a sweater, a pillow, a couch. Barely awake. She is a very lazy dog. I believe she spends maybe 1/8 of her time outside, 1/8 of her time squeaking toys/ tearing apart plushies/ general play time, 3/8 of her time sleeping and 3/8 of her time looking for food.<br />
<br />
If you love dogs and would love your dog featured on my Mondog posts (and I would love your fluffy or non fluffy puppy) on my blog. I will also link back to your blog! please email me at Chen.AD@gmail.com<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i.imgur.com/qbFE9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i.imgur.com/qbFE9.png" width="234" /></a></div>
It took a little bit but finally I have something to show for it.<br />
<br />
All this time I have been saying that I am not just a winter knitter. Because knitting is for all times. But now I think that it may not necessarily be true. While I knit in the summer because I like to knit come fall I think I knit more. Not because the weather is cooler but rather because I do more things. I travel on the bus (knitting time), I sit in class (knitting time), I have down time before classes between classes (more knitting time). It was how last week I finished my Escher socks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq_QRVTp4vej2XrcH6QEVs4lODS-q1QKCJnodvhJ8S39MKOiMevsCEFhSNrcSOz2-ifqUWHULNUwCwQjrc877afWgyGvxLbrRDc30nd434HMCVNq0dcPPFhqREzSuFkU441RA8CMJ2fvM/s1600/DSC03245.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq_QRVTp4vej2XrcH6QEVs4lODS-q1QKCJnodvhJ8S39MKOiMevsCEFhSNrcSOz2-ifqUWHULNUwCwQjrc877afWgyGvxLbrRDc30nd434HMCVNq0dcPPFhqREzSuFkU441RA8CMJ2fvM/s320/DSC03245.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And this week what I can show you is that I finally have progress on my Potpourri socks. So much progress that I almost wonder if I can pull this off in a year. Probably not. But you know it might be possible. Once I got over how much I hated the double figure eight wrap in the pattern, it is a breeze. Well... I shouldn't say that. don't want to jinx myself.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLYxWwboh0iYP0Y8DcDidQMLKQjSHOltr6i1I-FpXWW2gCj93OkM0hQ9Rae5tH-i-rgkINYk3ZO53VQqqy0qyPhwncGfVqqQOl06k3FtNR_mK91zdjwnKEuU6ZbPuFOwsZUdZmFP4H6bw/s1600/DSC03247.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLYxWwboh0iYP0Y8DcDidQMLKQjSHOltr6i1I-FpXWW2gCj93OkM0hQ9Rae5tH-i-rgkINYk3ZO53VQqqy0qyPhwncGfVqqQOl06k3FtNR_mK91zdjwnKEuU6ZbPuFOwsZUdZmFP4H6bw/s320/DSC03247.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I also started on a different pair of socks. They are the spot check socks and it will be some color work which I am excited about. It is going to be made out of Malabrigo in ravlery red and Mountain Colors Bearfoote in Bitterroot Rainbow.<br />
<br />
The differences in the size of balls is actually somewhat comical...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLJauQM_-Bjp6Mmfr5-hewuh_s7p-QO0LzARIBOkPP8hyePUC9WS1CgrHXBK85XnrA1f19PUnbZnYEADEFM0Tbhyrb7fIZAAbYyMVIHUi3_bD6SCteHP2I_qj0YY-KtJP-YC-c97a4Bzk/s1600/DSC03250.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLJauQM_-Bjp6Mmfr5-hewuh_s7p-QO0LzARIBOkPP8hyePUC9WS1CgrHXBK85XnrA1f19PUnbZnYEADEFM0Tbhyrb7fIZAAbYyMVIHUi3_bD6SCteHP2I_qj0YY-KtJP-YC-c97a4Bzk/s320/DSC03250.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Well hopefully this means the amount of knitting I am doing is on the up swing. And for the mothers and fathers that are worried, yes, I take notes in class as well. I wonder when I will knit when I graduate?<br />

Maybe two years at the rate that I am going.</div><div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEQrp_pV8p5Zuc9tL_20qXd8Nw1AaeKW9rdFw_k2YA1EIct7pIMrdy0WwhPDVliIF3FnpeNjnXZ0z_DETqPxNjUY-DQGQZbgNRlsYpzxk1WByKvcwViu5yfDNhAUH4_sPaQMfl66JpF1g/s1600/DSC03223.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEQrp_pV8p5Zuc9tL_20qXd8Nw1AaeKW9rdFw_k2YA1EIct7pIMrdy0WwhPDVliIF3FnpeNjnXZ0z_DETqPxNjUY-DQGQZbgNRlsYpzxk1WByKvcwViu5yfDNhAUH4_sPaQMfl66JpF1g/s400/DSC03223.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649406532626730738" border="0" /></a></div></div><div>So. Here are my Jade Escher socks. They are knit out of Dream in Color Smooshy in the good luck jade colorway. One of my favorites in the sock yarn. If the rainbow garter socks have everything that I didn't like about socks. These had everything that I love in socks. A simple but strong pattern that is memorable. A heel flap and gusset and square toe. </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEQrp_pV8p5Zuc9tL_20qXd8Nw1AaeKW9rdFw_k2YA1EIct7pIMrdy0WwhPDVliIF3FnpeNjnXZ0z_DETqPxNjUY-DQGQZbgNRlsYpzxk1WByKvcwViu5yfDNhAUH4_sPaQMfl66JpF1g/s1600/DSC03223.JPG"><br /></a></div><div>Also. Well, I don't have a cat. Besides I like dogs. My friend <a href="http://wypad.wordpress.com/">Contessa </a>asked if she could feature my dog on a Monday post and thus "Mondog" was born. Do you prefer dogs to cats as well? or do you like/have both?

<br />Back in April when my sewing machine broke I was just about the sew the binding together for my "Who's Hungry?" quilt. Now finally in August I finally finally got a working sewing machine. And not the first thing, but one of the first things I did, was get my binding all together and on my quilt.<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-yEpVtclOuWXMEKGzm6DKr_92xjo3trh3BlsgH69HooEA-JsAMbU74swZvwbTgkGgoIkiid6gnLWHI8KLHh7OvBpw4BEQLnnVU11eGB6Jq2ggsmor2vYGWaWBvgCwzNOmDPo5n1jtgM8/s1600/DSC03196.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-yEpVtclOuWXMEKGzm6DKr_92xjo3trh3BlsgH69HooEA-JsAMbU74swZvwbTgkGgoIkiid6gnLWHI8KLHh7OvBpw4BEQLnnVU11eGB6Jq2ggsmor2vYGWaWBvgCwzNOmDPo5n1jtgM8/s400/DSC03196.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645209521655180850" border="0" /></a></div><div>You've seen the quilt top (quite a while ago) but now I can finally show you the entire thing.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>I was supposed to borrow my friend Tanya's baby for the photo shoot. But he lives a little far away and I was unable to get him. Babies lead very busy lives you know. He's almost ready to learn how to walk.</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBvnGmLn6g7qzwJCAdcyUMtiIdrAQS3aZycXwZYon_2Ee4ZeD8b9S1XYBJT8ilqllVq_QjwZqorGvks4SqSroKShcTxPvUwKcjAG41eW77zzJFzoNri6UYNK-5YbhklI3VjEzrmqhCNg4/s1600/DSC03199.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBvnGmLn6g7qzwJCAdcyUMtiIdrAQS3aZycXwZYon_2Ee4ZeD8b9S1XYBJT8ilqllVq_QjwZqorGvks4SqSroKShcTxPvUwKcjAG41eW77zzJFzoNri6UYNK-5YbhklI3VjEzrmqhCNg4/s400/DSC03199.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645209528652459714" border="0" /></a></div><div>So instead of a baby model I took my quilt home and got the next best (better?) thing. A puppy model. Every time I feature Esme on my blog she always has her tongue sticking out and looks so derpy. I don't know why. I swear she doesn't always look like this. Oh well at lease she is happy.</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj00PWE6igSyj1etJipJK8TbJKUrK6tXkgMvJSQ6bKcXaYvu_Y1rnQJ-bP-f_ZVREue7ryPLs6f2aGGwlLvPW1ouXpkMqWAzSB5tPiG6ooLgGnRvmTKUsUhv2TDa6qR2cSRjSQocnXef2M/s1600/DSC03201.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj00PWE6igSyj1etJipJK8TbJKUrK6tXkgMvJSQ6bKcXaYvu_Y1rnQJ-bP-f_ZVREue7ryPLs6f2aGGwlLvPW1ouXpkMqWAzSB5tPiG6ooLgGnRvmTKUsUhv2TDa6qR2cSRjSQocnXef2M/s400/DSC03201.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645209539086981490" border="0" /></a></div><div>The finished quilt size is about 61 x 70 and was made with fat quarters that were my Christmas present from my sister. Which is exciting because that means I get to keep it. Cause it was a present. Yay.

<br /></a>Iam never sure what to call quilt tops. Are the a finished object? Are they a work in progress. The top is finished and it's not like the finished quilt will be much different from the finished top? Then again there is a lot more work that has to go in it before it is actually done.<div>

<br />This one. Look at her cuddling and being a total yarn hog. No, that is not why. Esme is a yarn snuggler, but she is also people snuggler. But she is a plushie destroyer. Doesn't like to cuddle up to them. don't know why.
<br />
<br />I have no movement on my potpourri socks. At all. I brought them home with me to my parents for the week and haven't even taken them out of the bag. Actually, I am currently not sure where they are. I should really go look for them.
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhUqIEm9AjOHQOXNOEcsWFrI3_PFrapdn8lhKc5CNUX2ZA_fqjNSsEEzDn2AILURNpPomIiCsHf7rZpX5fYIHX9SxiM9Q3PIVWzZUqNsWJqCv1UaE4kjJn4q8IKrcRI9ne3-15PFjdpGk/s1600/DSC03174.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhUqIEm9AjOHQOXNOEcsWFrI3_PFrapdn8lhKc5CNUX2ZA_fqjNSsEEzDn2AILURNpPomIiCsHf7rZpX5fYIHX9SxiM9Q3PIVWzZUqNsWJqCv1UaE4kjJn4q8IKrcRI9ne3-15PFjdpGk/s400/DSC03174.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643352803954035842" border="0" /></a>
<br />On my Jade Escher socks I am almost ready to turn the heel on the second sock. my goal was to have them done by now. I have 21 socks in my book. That means that I have to finish one or two pairs a month. Last month I finished one pair. Because it was the Tour de Fleece I said that was okay as long as I made two pairs in August. Weeelll... I should get cracking!
<br />
<br />But it's hard to get cracking when there is a puppy who wants her chin scratched!

<br />Also remember the yarn walk I went on that I told you about last week? I found my picture hidden on my computer!

<br />That was the yarn after I picked it all up. Pardon the messy room.

I am feeling uncreative.
<br />
<br />But this post has to do with an envelope. Specifically a 6x9 envelopes I receive in the mail.
<br />
<br />Over at the My Other Hobby Swap group on Ravelry we are doing envelope swaps in rounds. First round I received a delightful package from Susan that I love and have been putting the pins to good use. And the pez are very nearly gone. And look at how cute my new pin cushion is!
<br /><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6126/6002972848_2290fd6911.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6126/6002972848_2290fd6911.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>
<br />This round I swapped with Kay who you may remember as the nice former owner of my new sewing machine.
<br />
<br />And I LOVE it!
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6rG5Q2h0Yx9HLcVJ65K3g-p5HcblShZmOUDpeSgWsTp2bCaJCcTZswURqc_po-IxMcJhuIwE0l6O-SeiFIqIVxKdbN4wpU1LpLGlR_K5aW-oNnSqz0GVbv22bPBahhNCuUBQxnyA3hXQ/s1600/005.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6rG5Q2h0Yx9HLcVJ65K3g-p5HcblShZmOUDpeSgWsTp2bCaJCcTZswURqc_po-IxMcJhuIwE0l6O-SeiFIqIVxKdbN4wpU1LpLGlR_K5aW-oNnSqz0GVbv22bPBahhNCuUBQxnyA3hXQ/s400/005.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643215393393088322" border="0" /></a>
<br />I got:
<br /><ul><li>A crab Beanie baby (I used to collect these!)</li><li>A recipe for chocolate crack that sounds delicious</li><li>Mints in a cute tin</li><li>Clover tapestry needles (I am always loosing mine)</li><li>A squished penny from stitch and pitch that we both attended</li><li>Some yarny spiny buttons</li><li>a row counter I've never had one like this before!</li><li>a Pillsbury dough-boy key chain because I like to bake</li><li>And the cutest ruffly fun wrist warmers. They are so soft and squish-y it makes me glad that I live in a cold weather state</li></ul>
<br />My mom saw me wearing them the other day, even though it is around 75 degrees out at night. She called me silly and then in the same breath said that I should make four for Esme.

<br />But she can't have mine. They're too big on her.
<br />
<br />Besides. I like wearing them too much.

<br />
<br />Sorry about missing last weeks post. I managed to be a little too busy for it as I was throwing a birthday party and then on Sunday I went to go see a super awesome concert for a band called The Head and The Heart. The were amazing and here are some of my poor attempts at pictures.

<br />Last week I had a kind of experience that really made me throw my hands up in the air and want to scream in frustration. Walking home from the bus stop my cake of yarn fell out of my bag, but the WIP part of it stayed in the bag. And I didn't notice until I was in the front door of my house. INSIDE the front door. I had walked nearly a block and had yarn trailing behind me the entire time. The entire time. The. Entire. Time. Took a long while and a lot of cursing to pick it up. I unfortunately deleted my post walk picture by accident

<br />But in good news I have a sock finished! Look isn't it nice? I have no progress on my potpourri sock so no pictures of it. But I did finish one of my Jade Escher socks! yay!
<br />
<br />Truth be told since I got my sewing machine back I have been quilting a lot. I have a quilt top to show for it. But it is going to be a surprise.
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicrFakLiPE1XR-h_IAYOB4XivCGcV-qB_2RG7J8W2Jbjb8lqN2OcvsVWrW0hz4FF9IOlYU390gbHsK8Lp0-S-mbHZ5QS68Puauipwcuy7giDZdx1Z18gWXVdDyIqdJFqXWZZJQl52zJqA/s1600/DSC03101.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicrFakLiPE1XR-h_IAYOB4XivCGcV-qB_2RG7J8W2Jbjb8lqN2OcvsVWrW0hz4FF9IOlYU390gbHsK8Lp0-S-mbHZ5QS68Puauipwcuy7giDZdx1Z18gWXVdDyIqdJFqXWZZJQl52zJqA/s400/DSC03101.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5640951098757707122" border="0" /></a>
<br />Something you may not know (actually definitely don't know because I didn't blog about it). is that I started the split toe sweethearts a little while ago, knit them for an entire day, learned a new way to cast, and then realized that the sock was entirely too big and ripped it out. This week, I was prepared sat down at my LYS and swatched so i would buy the right needles. This gauge is way off of my normal one. I usually use size three needles. For this sock the size 1's were too big, and the size 0's were too small. What to do in this case? people don't make a needle size 1.5. Ready to scream and rip hair out part two.
<br />
<br />But right now I am home with my puppy.
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUFtrlBAND3vkX46OUDdWOIdt7QM1_cuF7eGWOo5ZAwGLQajUZtG6SalvboN9JXtjV8Fy5tjqw9bkKge-ZybxyE6qMDO1kn09J7pxRqwg8BINWjAb4HQbmLqhOUr8RdpBc0dIJQ9gIFMs/s1600/DSC03110.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUFtrlBAND3vkX46OUDdWOIdt7QM1_cuF7eGWOo5ZAwGLQajUZtG6SalvboN9JXtjV8Fy5tjqw9bkKge-ZybxyE6qMDO1kn09J7pxRqwg8BINWjAb4HQbmLqhOUr8RdpBc0dIJQ9gIFMs/s400/DSC03110.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5640951082931464050" border="0" /></a>
<br />And sewing machineless. But that is okay.
<br />Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01297004102956401350noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4868376663854094642.post-73164570521197822882011-08-11T11:17:00.003-05:002011-08-11T11:27:06.434-05:00Results!So sorry everyone I know I missed last Sunday's Year of projects update. And that I haven't posted all week. But I've been having some camera problems. I need a new memory card this one has basically been limping along and has finally decided to give up. So until that is fixed I will not be taking too many pictures.
<br />
<br />But in better news! Remember my new friend <a href="http://thecraftbookproject.com/">Alica</a>? Well, after having her survey open for the summer she has gotten 483 results. WOW. I took political science stats last summer. And I had a hard enough time with that. I can't imagine trying to use primary data and coming up with everything. Of course I'm terrible at research, probably why I will never become a grad student.
<br />
<br />But how did these break down?
<br />
<br /><a href="http://craftbookproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Map_of_USA_showing_state_names.png"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 421px; height: 255px;" src="http://craftbookproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Map_of_USA_showing_state_names.png" alt="" border="0" /></a>Look! There is me in the Minnesota group along with 10 others! (note there were also international bloggers so these numbers don't add up to 483)
<br />
<br />For a better look at this break down. Along with really great information about the project. Make sure you go hop on over to look at the <a href="http://craftbookproject.com/?p=226">full official results</a>. And don't forget to drop Alica a comment!
<br />
<br />More about my own crafting when I get my camera up and running again. Also, cross your fingers for me their might be a new computer in my future!

And not a WoW one either. The nerd in me is jumping up and down for joy right now. Last month I decided to attend a meeting of the Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild. They meet once a month and talk and plan and have a show and tell of quilts. It is hosted at <a href="http://sewtropolis.com/">Sewtropolis</a> and a lot of fun.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoDRXyNOUZglUutwSDPeajDvT-sZV3GBQCM6yiYhBjCzdkKSzsQG7GkvoUT3ynyhBj21SbqownjQbKpO0etuHP7oBp9ME6cWrYPZpLLGXYDo65R-Hmf3HcqCnL952Zyv_aGFPx5Qh0Cl54/s320/tami_wip.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoDRXyNOUZglUutwSDPeajDvT-sZV3GBQCM6yiYhBjCzdkKSzsQG7GkvoUT3ynyhBj21SbqownjQbKpO0etuHP7oBp9ME6cWrYPZpLLGXYDo65R-Hmf3HcqCnL952Zyv_aGFPx5Qh0Cl54/s320/tami_wip.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br />And boy did I choose a good month to come! In July they decided to start TWO that is right TWO challenges. At the time I could only pick one. I went with the rainbow-y one (big surprise) But today I stopped by and picked up the fabric for the second one. That is a lot of free fabric for this very happy little girl!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8Unzi6qmYCJUNUVA_HVV7Z9ZR4cCIlJFZjUDxZhQQn0cBUt2upisjamNfkT0UVKwiaHOvt_HNkFaSLfTjuOBvm-Lc2mpgrfCjZvL0JRR8L0EGrIu7_Cw4sAYZPTMwjLzLWi4eFlwt_t0/s1600/DSC03022.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8Unzi6qmYCJUNUVA_HVV7Z9ZR4cCIlJFZjUDxZhQQn0cBUt2upisjamNfkT0UVKwiaHOvt_HNkFaSLfTjuOBvm-Lc2mpgrfCjZvL0JRR8L0EGrIu7_Cw4sAYZPTMwjLzLWi4eFlwt_t0/s400/DSC03022.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5636798179918575442" border="0" /></a><br />The First one which I started planning and cutting immediately is the Kona Soilds challenge where you are given a charm pack of Kona solids to do with what you please. You can only add other Kona solids into the mix. I picked out the ones I am planning on using and getting to work. As a Guild we decided to impose another challenge on ourselves and that is that we must use half square triangles to make these.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSF1vkXPSC4vTOx8jggKQ0ycjEjLHezcjHbv1MagMHpGwzYZ4iZV3r_tjJYJzOCWd7cHrj0yhjUQNdA9237Xv3pi7RyfnzeeIL7U-J5-Q4E21vAbJrP7sP8l5oTZMW62PLDR1tpVKRtg0/s1600/DSC03019.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSF1vkXPSC4vTOx8jggKQ0ycjEjLHezcjHbv1MagMHpGwzYZ4iZV3r_tjJYJzOCWd7cHrj0yhjUQNdA9237Xv3pi7RyfnzeeIL7U-J5-Q4E21vAbJrP7sP8l5oTZMW62PLDR1tpVKRtg0/s400/DSC03019.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5636798162890677986" border="0" /></a><br />Oh you notice something? That my half square triangles are already stitched? Well that is because I JUST got my sewing machine back! (YAY!) For those of you who aren't ravelry friends with me. After the awesome Kay gave me a sewing machine I managed to/ It broke on me. In about 10 minutes. turns out it had a broken part that needed to be ordered. But I just got it back in time for happy quilting times YAY!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicE-bECOvmm4ZeKXR2CBURMz6PVq5Xtiw6a7bp1hd_-n3lQHpCe9eFbn_A2ydny3i2NUKvFRWt9PP2mx9NDgRIjHaMg6PnJHeD7IvG2fgIyjH16HeVEj1b7eQOv9LgKhSjlaa75D17nD0/s1600/DSC03027.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicE-bECOvmm4ZeKXR2CBURMz6PVq5Xtiw6a7bp1hd_-n3lQHpCe9eFbn_A2ydny3i2NUKvFRWt9PP2mx9NDgRIjHaMg6PnJHeD7IvG2fgIyjH16HeVEj1b7eQOv9LgKhSjlaa75D17nD0/s400/DSC03027.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5636798173208976882" border="0" /></a><br />The other challenge that I picked up today is the Jay McCarol challenge. I received a fat eighth of eight of his fabrics from his line to make something out of. Aren't they pretty? The guild imposed challenge on this one is "wonky" I have an idea in my head. And just randomly cut strips out of my fat eights and I am about to go work on them now as soon as I am done making this blog post.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHNKS9NfgeP_YG8PR9o5Z6lWax76AQViKUUVdc2ET78Dfzs7-ZHPiE55EbVoVteorEFVa1SqGm40dWOFKMaPr2pZ4e3iCML6ssosBZZfbSu_Icl4yRwq7ApPbfMiadqJe8Bbfe2z5_oEU/s1600/DSC03029.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHNKS9NfgeP_YG8PR9o5Z6lWax76AQViKUUVdc2ET78Dfzs7-ZHPiE55EbVoVteorEFVa1SqGm40dWOFKMaPr2pZ4e3iCML6ssosBZZfbSu_Icl4yRwq7ApPbfMiadqJe8Bbfe2z5_oEU/s400/DSC03029.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5636798184627509986" border="0" /></a>The more I look at these fabrics the more I like them. They don't all exactly match but I think that is part of the charm right? AND Jay McCarol is the season 1 winner of Project Runway! I had no idea he was designing fabric now. But he definitely has a flair for it.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdR2PzE39Sdz4MPKf2xQb285tgbqqMpMVsjxxCj5l0oNGCLBPPu84x4pGw4li4sJu-WGJS3ldWVCjHnFj_rRlrq8bXaM61uKLjUldgrP3Nbp2PZ2hKlOYRAjeHQyKBDF6bL_j3AcKP4HE/s1600/DSC03032.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdR2PzE39Sdz4MPKf2xQb285tgbqqMpMVsjxxCj5l0oNGCLBPPu84x4pGw4li4sJu-WGJS3ldWVCjHnFj_rRlrq8bXaM61uKLjUldgrP3Nbp2PZ2hKlOYRAjeHQyKBDF6bL_j3AcKP4HE/s400/DSC03032.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5636798193023323842" border="0" /></a><br />I'M SO EXCITED TO BE QUILTING AGAIN! <br />Good news. I finished my first pair of socks. I am a little bit behind schedule but with the Tour de Fleece I figure July is an okay month to only finish one pair of socks. Though, it does mean I get started off to a bit of a slow start. Hopefully August I will pick up speed and knit a little faster.

<br />My camera was fogging up because it was so muggy outside!
<br />
<br />As you can tell by the swing bench I am once again at my roommates parents. Not only for the free air conditioning but we are also celebrating our birthday (we were born on the same day but I am a year older what are the odds) which is actually tomorrow. So far her parents have been spoiling the crap out of me and I love it. best. birthday. ever.

<br />But socks! They are paca-peds in tye-dye knit in the collision pattern. And were the first out of my sock grab bag. I am really happy how they turned out especially the top of the foot looks very nice. It is currently way too hot to be wearing them now though. I will put them away in favor for cooler weather. Last year I was stubborn enough to wear hand knit socks until June. This year I learned my lesson.

<br />What finishing one sock means though is that I only have one (YOP) sock on the needles. So this means I get to cast on again right? RIGHT? Casting on it one of my favorite parts of a project.

Well I'm starting to remember why for the first four years of my knitting life I didn't own a needle under a size 11. And even then I rarely used a size 11. I spent a lot of time knitting scarves out of chunky yarn. And then I discovered socks.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIn1IfK1aTCtwu9LGfTWGWdkVWsTuV9mIcaouL77Kg9-A81Pkdv_9K8aIsD316preLc8Y2Qj0ILBovdDMLgXkRgsmMUhFUM7Q13zYXnpI4j_pz9f56UEoW_D6uBV57t9DQATSfbWVJWj0/s1600/DSC02946.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIn1IfK1aTCtwu9LGfTWGWdkVWsTuV9mIcaouL77Kg9-A81Pkdv_9K8aIsD316preLc8Y2Qj0ILBovdDMLgXkRgsmMUhFUM7Q13zYXnpI4j_pz9f56UEoW_D6uBV57t9DQATSfbWVJWj0/s400/DSC02946.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634822011031105634" border="0" /></a><br />But there is something about the clicking of giant needles that are just sort of fun. Really Really fun. I saw this sample at my LYS and immediately fell in love with it. It looks hard but it is just one ball of yarn that they make to look very complicated and messy(in a good way).<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk6v8j-P-jTMAMNc_knHrTDBjvsLfuCLotwRO4T2JjtjI7miteWFrjJRgT8V1hMhZTwIynTRhFKK24GC48ILrIACazCoaSMjJo3YrGjVm67mN3Tvcgil95k1fm8XSJvwSOtEiOZNtVTrw/s1600/DSC02960.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk6v8j-P-jTMAMNc_knHrTDBjvsLfuCLotwRO4T2JjtjI7miteWFrjJRgT8V1hMhZTwIynTRhFKK24GC48ILrIACazCoaSMjJo3YrGjVm67mN3Tvcgil95k1fm8XSJvwSOtEiOZNtVTrw/s400/DSC02960.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634822030575632514" border="0" /></a><br />When I bought the yarn I also bought the size 35 needles. At first I was hesitant buying such big needles. When would I ever use them again? Well so far I have knit two projects on them and I am currently spinning the yarn for a third. So other than my size three needles that constantly have a sock on them in recent times these have been the needles that have seen the most action in a while and I will eat my words.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg15xi-bEsjmU7ySSOu-JWKfpriLDrUT1L_bzArlMorXh35Eqm-MNXGrzEqd_JRYs34bkLXcYKhZIUDZWw7BHqNg3oEMKLigRxj0rzEaiw77GqCRlQrDNTV4ZS9luwXKbs98ghiIm8nTnc/s1600/DSC02948.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg15xi-bEsjmU7ySSOu-JWKfpriLDrUT1L_bzArlMorXh35Eqm-MNXGrzEqd_JRYs34bkLXcYKhZIUDZWw7BHqNg3oEMKLigRxj0rzEaiw77GqCRlQrDNTV4ZS9luwXKbs98ghiIm8nTnc/s400/DSC02948.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634823395410780706" border="0" /></a><br />I am not one of those "knitting is only for winter" people. I love knitting at all times. The bad thing about summer knitting though is that I have to wait until winter. Or at the very least until it is not 90 degrees out to wear them. Maybe I should look into knitting tanktops.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju7pKGPLQoJp0kjo9KXnvqvkMEG9ow7YiD7s6u1Tiw3jTYC2L-sVmbdFDvyKJSxj5IdWnNR6VYfCUoYs8WdqYzlqA80hFBdVbIYPsZbocumLZu-EGBxILIYcnZL3tPwL-icCTpxQF5I94/s1600/DSC02959.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju7pKGPLQoJp0kjo9KXnvqvkMEG9ow7YiD7s6u1Tiw3jTYC2L-sVmbdFDvyKJSxj5IdWnNR6VYfCUoYs8WdqYzlqA80hFBdVbIYPsZbocumLZu-EGBxILIYcnZL3tPwL-icCTpxQF5I94/s400/DSC02959.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634822017195104674" border="0" /></a><br />But I don't know hipster scarves are just so cute. No not really. Maybe it is more like the rainbow express? It all started when I asked my wonderful and talented friend <a href="http://www.tanyahaller.moonfruit.com/">Tanya</a>, who was drawing custom my little ponies at the time, to draw a birthday party picture for myself and my roommate (we have the same birthdate but she is a year younger!) With the custom pony she had drawn of me and one of my rommie.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJrV72mRWbWa5N0zn_bUMR5ASoRXshOKFAvhV8Rwy8yc4LMakrg7jgVigKrLHy6PkrBGnVxQPRlpq48fRUYsFdv0amonfl-U8AI6r2jpKJolsWpi4F_OKAFcSeXeQtmLukZxuG37l75CM/s1600/birthday+card+annie.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 272px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJrV72mRWbWa5N0zn_bUMR5ASoRXshOKFAvhV8Rwy8yc4LMakrg7jgVigKrLHy6PkrBGnVxQPRlpq48fRUYsFdv0amonfl-U8AI6r2jpKJolsWpi4F_OKAFcSeXeQtmLukZxuG37l75CM/s400/birthday+card+annie.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634562453404328866" border="0" /></a><br />Here is the picture it is sooo cute! I offered to knit her something for her troubles and she requested rainbow fingerless gloves. I forgot to take a picture of them before I sent them out. But they are full of rainbow-y delight you'll have to trust me on this one.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrM0qx7MwJiO3OLe2ow-CpsmmP6qX4_v02FbgspNSQ4sXLXUVlXoZRJRXuSQEGJEWc_CW1Ga-UtzYMxLOEi9d11GsAxgGkjVzQM83CfDr7cXZQRCjpDbJpWCPjYL8mzShAjfN38Lib5so/s1600/DSC02940.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrM0qx7MwJiO3OLe2ow-CpsmmP6qX4_v02FbgspNSQ4sXLXUVlXoZRJRXuSQEGJEWc_CW1Ga-UtzYMxLOEi9d11GsAxgGkjVzQM83CfDr7cXZQRCjpDbJpWCPjYL8mzShAjfN38Lib5so/s400/DSC02940.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634562444740401154" border="0" /></a><br />Then on Monday I got more rainbow goodness from her in the form of two keychains! They're super cute and they're like the friendship necklaces from when I was little. One to keep and one to give away (although I want to be selfish and keep that one too!) I was expecting a key chain in the mail but not two and definitely not so darn cute! Watch it. How does it make you feel?<br /><br />For me I feel annoyed and insulted. I saw it last night while watching Criminal Minds on my Direct TV. After this commercial I seriously considered changing my satellite service provider.<br /><br />Looking into it online I found out that the Actor in the commercial is Dat Phan the winner of the first season of Last Comic Standing. He mostly catapulted to fame by making fun of his Asian mom. And I get it. I frequent <a href="http://mymomisafob.com/">My mom is a fob</a> I used to keep a list of all the amusing things my mom says to me.<br /><br />But this just takes all the bad stereo types that their are of Asians/Chinese people specifically and shows them off in one setting. It is roles like this and people willing to play roles like this. People who find roles like these funny. This is the reason that there are almost no roles for Asian American actors in Hollywood. And certainly not leading roles.<br /><br />No instead they are regulated to the Breakfast at Tiffany's Mr. Yunioshi (played by the yellowfaced Mickey Rooney) roles that that allow them to stay otherized and allowed to be the funny afterthought. They get to be the out-there side kick. The hot porcelain doll. The wicked evil dragon lady. When can I just watch a show where the Asian American actors get to play people?<br /><br />One of my favorite and (in my opinion) most accurate representations of the Chinese-American experience is an indie movie called Shanghai Kiss that was made in 2007 starring Ken Leung, Hayden Panetteire and Kelly Hu. The plot is a bit long so I'll just leave you with the trailer<br /><br /><iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7fFS6u5Om3s" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="349" width="560"></iframe><br /><br />If that catches your interest you can <a href="http://www.hulu.com/watch/206392/shanghai-kiss">watch the whole movie for free on Hulu.</a><br /><br />Racism is still racism. Even if Dat Phan thought it was funny and wanted to play along. It doesn't excuse the fact that it is incredibly offensive. Just because people have been conditioned to ignore instances like this in favor of keeping the norm (I just KNOW there are people out there who will say something along the lines of "Well, I'm Asian and I didn't find it offensive") doesn't mean that it isn't. and it certainly doesn't mean that this sort of blatant racism is okay. I for one and not planning on signing on with direct TV again next year.Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01297004102956401350noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4868376663854094642.post-18900928852162827862011-07-24T11:41:00.005-05:002011-07-24T12:01:31.074-05:00Rockin' the Suburbs<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i.imgur.com/qbFE9.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 410px;" src="http://i.imgur.com/qbFE9.png" alt="" border="0" /></a>I am spending this weekend in the suburbs with my roommates family. Because they are awesome and because of lack of air conditioning in my house.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisiE9xv_uPpIVtOCNbUJT381hmFy4HHnJth73GNCiP-02UVAoazd6o-VP4xJ7w2Ju4qs73OrwkC2dQR_lzRZOJeElb70tyZ0Waykv0pHgo5-Az2syF5Is0O6Wy-mcP05nw77hkG1PsiFM/s1600/DSC02883.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisiE9xv_uPpIVtOCNbUJT381hmFy4HHnJth73GNCiP-02UVAoazd6o-VP4xJ7w2Ju4qs73OrwkC2dQR_lzRZOJeElb70tyZ0Waykv0pHgo5-Az2syF5Is0O6Wy-mcP05nw77hkG1PsiFM/s400/DSC02883.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632964460659877426" border="0" /></a><br />Unfortunately because of that. And general (I get really bad second sock syndrome but hate knitting two socks at the same time) I really don't have a whole lot to report. I finished the cuff of my second tie-dye collision sock done with the flat portion and the rest of it is in the round so it should go much faster. I like knitting in the round much better than knitting flat. Being done with the cuff though also means that short rows are coming up. And we know how much I like those.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9-uJR8Dd_rPo00AFUhT5b9AUXXFC0Us_vOfuxsCabWuMmzwwMrJ-oiTjhXIyBE7qmnsIjMy7lvJ7iCOkaEtdbQRHYmfU-s3xpoISlZpB7Qfp2IC89F0eCABmAaSE8wNlrJBiDfyVx9kY/s1600/DSC02875.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9-uJR8Dd_rPo00AFUhT5b9AUXXFC0Us_vOfuxsCabWuMmzwwMrJ-oiTjhXIyBE7qmnsIjMy7lvJ7iCOkaEtdbQRHYmfU-s3xpoISlZpB7Qfp2IC89F0eCABmAaSE8wNlrJBiDfyVx9kY/s400/DSC02875.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632964443290625042" border="0" /></a><br />I really love this yarn though. It is still in it is begining stages. But it is Dream in Color Smooshy in Good Luck Jade and I am knitting the Escher socks pattern. I knit something similar a while back but while they look sort of similar (or rather this one looks like the inside out version of that one) the patterns are completely different. This one though is more of a traditional sock construction that I like.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVg-W75pFRwrZP4xZ_USrMEO1aVtMw2HHyiq2VwH2jOEpNDVR3EvNxeamadd_qO5tWr7JFlFa98UuFLAR8iJp-f5Of2_K4d5DHHjhuDF1grqUW2x0ACQ_4VN02KdAKmAD9vL3bYgs6sYk/s1600/DSC02879.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVg-W75pFRwrZP4xZ_USrMEO1aVtMw2HHyiq2VwH2jOEpNDVR3EvNxeamadd_qO5tWr7JFlFa98UuFLAR8iJp-f5Of2_K4d5DHHjhuDF1grqUW2x0ACQ_4VN02KdAKmAD9vL3bYgs6sYk/s400/DSC02879.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632964456268907650" border="0" /></a><br />Also, I can't leave without showing you all what I am taking pictures on. It is the hardest part of the Tour de France which means that it should also be the hardest part of the Tour de Fleece. That though is open to interpretation. For me I have decided that the hardest part of my tour will be spinning with an unfamiliar short stapled fiber. Enter the llama fiber. I picked this up at the farmers market in my home town a month ago and now I get to spin it up.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBGRO9dWC8MACocGr-oMSC4LI5mo5owtab34uBXjJjFXSMwHPMOOUqbGzWfO2RSodCyXFiuy8bs1lM5u2L_iSuNUu97RwhQvG45leufa29DlBKl3s9-dJgKgwe5ntge58oGvq2OPNYX2A/s1600/DSC02842.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 419px; height: 315px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBGRO9dWC8MACocGr-oMSC4LI5mo5owtab34uBXjJjFXSMwHPMOOUqbGzWfO2RSodCyXFiuy8bs1lM5u2L_iSuNUu97RwhQvG45leufa29DlBKl3s9-dJgKgwe5ntge58oGvq2OPNYX2A/s320/DSC02842.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632403858615285250" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I chose to try it out which my new cascade spindle. Which was the replacement for the one I broke a couple weeks ago. (Yes spindles don't count in my fabric, fiber yarn diet. But I did decided that I would rather buy a spindle than groceries this week. I have been living off of rice, and noddles) I am happy to report that even though the look of it is slightly different, it does spin very similarly to my old Cascade spindle. A huge relief.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAwFedSm0aM9Hk0f-eykyT5TXgpMzfyDIxQRX2Kwu8DICNc6hwiR7eyVoJnMhg64ZxZPc_Bc_3Ry1t5n6s-kW-20lDVH6as985UGFEtcT3H3rhfyEDSyis61lRvmPR2Kzm5Kfvdb-vKtM/s1600/DSC02841.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 407px; height: 305px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAwFedSm0aM9Hk0f-eykyT5TXgpMzfyDIxQRX2Kwu8DICNc6hwiR7eyVoJnMhg64ZxZPc_Bc_3Ry1t5n6s-kW-20lDVH6as985UGFEtcT3H3rhfyEDSyis61lRvmPR2Kzm5Kfvdb-vKtM/s320/DSC02841.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632403846588288306" border="0" /></a><br />Llama fiber spins up a little like my merino/angora blend that I've been working on. But it is very fine and doesn't have a lot of stretch to it. I won't really know until I knit with it though.<br /><br />My plans for this llama fiber I am spinning up is going to be to ply it with this beautiful woolgatherings fiber I have that is a merino/tussah silk/bamboo blend. I didn't plan on spinning them up together. Actually at all. But it is sort of a new thing for me to blend a rainbow fiber with a solid neutral color.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuxWcKIUwS7ePTNpCac9fwd-rKUi8fUsjrrW9UTGuOdexh6WuMmZS87RJ3AOt0rvgH0FkkYcamL1sEh6Cx8BFdf-2iArtQx8SElev1nyOoqfrf0xCM_sPXo5RPcbJC7qrc8NFjASsCUJE/s1600/DSC02846.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 416px; height: 312px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuxWcKIUwS7ePTNpCac9fwd-rKUi8fUsjrrW9UTGuOdexh6WuMmZS87RJ3AOt0rvgH0FkkYcamL1sEh6Cx8BFdf-2iArtQx8SElev1nyOoqfrf0xCM_sPXo5RPcbJC7qrc8NFjASsCUJE/s320/DSC02846.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632403866128188146" border="0" /></a><br />These two were also sitting next to each other in my fiber closet and they just went so well together I couldn't resist. I think I'm going to split the rainbow as much as possible to get the short color repeats in there and it (should) be really pretty. That's all I've got for challenging myself. A fiber of a different nature. It is very very soft though<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgulsYbbiaKxNBScmpqoVh7bILLA71M3w4IX1E7rAa8fGyFExpj9TG5QmbqaeO4YrGCxCBi1B-Y3OBy0NK6NpCaIF_dm76mSdWi5Zy-a7ZOi-1nBikcnSDshcs30ht-wGvWWmbn-H51bPQ/s1600/DSC02848.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 413px; height: 309px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgulsYbbiaKxNBScmpqoVh7bILLA71M3w4IX1E7rAa8fGyFExpj9TG5QmbqaeO4YrGCxCBi1B-Y3OBy0NK6NpCaIF_dm76mSdWi5Zy-a7ZOi-1nBikcnSDshcs30ht-wGvWWmbn-H51bPQ/s320/DSC02848.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632403876867766642" border="0" /></a><br />Also, I wanted to show off. Nothing that interests me too much but a quilt by <a href="http://cuttopieces.blogspot.com/">Angela</a> really caught my eye, especially when she went and posted it in this version.<br /><br /><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5318/5864589963_89e7158888.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 357px; height: 500px;" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5318/5864589963_89e7158888.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>It's RAINBOW! and the perfect way to use not-exactly-coordinating-but-not-mismatching fat quarters. Today I dragged my entire fat quarter stash went through it. And came up with this.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_zldGT3FvX47LpilCwBSXdV569cLiCixvVEG-oT4J9-zq6qCFHOYh_BRKabkS54x-QsBAw_jbsE_lhEVpw-jrlCPDyHgdoxByC8gWUbl-JkYYjHqH-lKDLFzVnPx3jhyphenhyphenopd_TkXloiFI/s1600/DSC02789.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_zldGT3FvX47LpilCwBSXdV569cLiCixvVEG-oT4J9-zq6qCFHOYh_BRKabkS54x-QsBAw_jbsE_lhEVpw-jrlCPDyHgdoxByC8gWUbl-JkYYjHqH-lKDLFzVnPx3jhyphenhyphenopd_TkXloiFI/s400/DSC02789.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631673186402536210" border="0" /></a><br />I think I like the color pallet I maybe have to switch it around some more still and figure it out. I think though the real make it or break it of this quilt will be the background color I pick. Anyone have any suggestions? Based on the pic in my back stairwell I don't think white is the right neutral to do it with. My first inclination is to use grey. But that is because I really like the color grey so I am biased.<br /><br />The more I think about quilting the more I'm getting excited for it. I finally sent the check to my sewing machine repair guy so I can replace the part that broke!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyPCLsqhsCA1wAq-ldjgTqasRfjPMZXZJyyELWrSbT6UDJzQWjR53d1KzsVnSs6cgVQ9sB8q7oFpSv_xpsznNKPoYvm78L24GLXbO-64XEXm6G5crDJtWWeXnLsIaH2OUcg33gLvF8lr0/s1600/DSC02790.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyPCLsqhsCA1wAq-ldjgTqasRfjPMZXZJyyELWrSbT6UDJzQWjR53d1KzsVnSs6cgVQ9sB8q7oFpSv_xpsznNKPoYvm78L24GLXbO-64XEXm6G5crDJtWWeXnLsIaH2OUcg33gLvF8lr0/s400/DSC02790.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631673193742528898" border="0" /></a>Right now though it is too hot to think about ironing. (an important part of quilting) The heat index has consistently been over 100 degrees lately. Usually averaging about 105. My roommates new favorite website is <a href="http://thefuckingweather.com/?zipcode=55414">The Fucking Weather</a> which is kind of all sorts of awesome. The point is it is way too hot to play with a hot machine, especially one that spurts out steam.<br /><br />My favorite part of quilting is the large amounts of fabric and color that can go in one quilt. If I put that much different yarn in a sock it would look a little silly. But for fabric I think this is the perfect amount.<br /><br />Have you noticed my problem yet? Look closely... How about this side?<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCxaOfn9Fo9tr3sS-ZNuIu8eybHJWyLo38Do4Op9tRdJE5n0rSCOi0ThozHj8siN_Ugwuxhflcbe8WYrEyz8QOJ_Y9UJYWSEkrD4YYbU-wXaxCplxRgnlcb2wfcfxILKfxj6y9IUWkTEE/s1600/DSC02791.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCxaOfn9Fo9tr3sS-ZNuIu8eybHJWyLo38Do4Op9tRdJE5n0rSCOi0ThozHj8siN_Ugwuxhflcbe8WYrEyz8QOJ_Y9UJYWSEkrD4YYbU-wXaxCplxRgnlcb2wfcfxILKfxj6y9IUWkTEE/s400/DSC02791.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631673204095129874" border="0" /></a>I only have two purples. I need three... Does someone have a purplely-lavender fat quarter they'd be so kind to pass along? I'll trade you? I'm also looking for another yellow and green because a few of them I would like to switch out.<br /><br />Which brings us to the second part of this post. Over the winter I decided (or rather was just too lazy to keep studs in) to let the piercings in my ears close. I didn't get them pierced until I was 18 and found them to be a hassle more than anything else. So I've decided that I should pass my earrings on to someone that would actually use them. Or repurpose them. I'm not picky just so<br />long as they are put to good use. Here is the lot.<br /><div style="text-align: center;">(Promised to someone)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4VmQBMAw13dk8vFd0EOhw8ISOsF8x4F6k-b667GhbRUTaxv_7UkMzU4qsbf4FEGgYN137My6ypHNK9GjpgFUfEKW3Ux3qS9d5V_7iFHedePCe6lehJwhRxlt6xBJs1wW6OAOTC9f4Jm0/s1600/DSC02801.JPG"><img style="display:block;
